Defensive Driving: DDC-8/6

Overview

KSPT's certified Instructors deliver the National Safety Council's DDC-8/6; a comprehensive, interactive course with a basic eight-hour curriculum that can be reduced to six hours if required by your specific training needs. The objective of this course is to give drivers practical knowledge and techniques to avoid collisions and violations, and to choose safe, responsible and lawful driving behaviours. Our teaching materials are designed to make presenting easy and enjoyable.

Course Content: What's in it for Me?

The course comprises six sessions, designed to ensure that successful participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the need for and benefits of defensive driving
  • Have the practical knowledge and techniques to avoid collisions and violations
  • Give sensible advice for choosing safe, responsible and lawful driving behaviours and habits
  • Give guidance for encouraging drivers to view safety on a personal level
  • Have the skills for recognizing how attitude can help prevent accidents and poor decision making
  • Identify the uncontrollable driving conditions that contribute to collisions
  • Understand the consequences of fatigue, distracted driving, emotional impairments and other risk factors
  • Understand the six (6) most common types of driving errors that contribute to collisions
  • Choose the appropriate defensive driving strategy to avoid a crash in any given driving situation

Exams: Will I be Tested?

A written, open-book assessment will be administered at the end of the course.

Awards: How can I Update my Portfolio?

An internationally recognized, NSC Defensive Driving Course Completion Certificate and wallet card will be awarded to all successful participants.

Schedule: When Can I Start?

DDC-8/6 is scheduled on a needs basis, with a class conducted on the second Saturday of every month.

Prerequisites: How do I Apply?

Applicants must be in possession of a valid driver's permit.

KSPT was registered with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT) on 23 July 2009 as a post secondary institution and is now legally authorised to offer a wide range of programs to the industry and public.

On 20 April 2010 KSPT was awarded Center Approval Status with City & Guilds International and was further approved to deliver the Process Technology and International Vocational Qualification in Oil and Gas programmes.
