City & Guilds International Vocational Qualification (IVQ) in Oil and Gas - Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Overview

The level 3 International Vocational Qualification (IVQ) Advanced Diploma in Oil and Gas Operations focuses on the development of the underlying principles and practical skills required in the oil and gas industry.

The qualification is designed to deliver a high level of occupational capability and provide a sound foundation for progression.

The qualification meets the needs of learners who work or want to work in the oil and gas industry and provides a broad background of understanding of the oil and gas industry and the practical skills and knowledge required.

Course Content: What's in it for Me?

The content areas are as follows:

  • Unit 001 Hand over processes, plant and equipment.
  • Unit 002 Restoring the workplace after completing the maintenance procedures of plant and equipment.
  • Unit 003 Minimizing and reducing risks to life, property and the environment at work.
  • Unit 004 Operating safely at work, minimizing risks and complying with emergency procedures.
  • Unit 005 Participating in activities to develop effective working relationships.
  • Unit 006 Arranging and preparing the workplace for the maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Unit 007 Performing maintenance procedures on mechanical plant equipment.
  • Unit 008 Assessing and dealing with defects and variations in mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Unit 009 Identifying and analyzing the causes of defects in mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Unit 013 Removing components from mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Unit 014 Replacing components in mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Unit 017 Obtaining information from mechanical engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Unit 018 Analyzing and recommending improvements to maintenance procedures for mechanical plant and equipment.

Exams: Will I be Tested?

All students will be assessed via written examinations, oral questioning, practical assessments. Successful completion of the program depends on the students demonstrating both the theoretical and practical competencies required in each unit.

Awards: How can I Update my Portfolio?

An Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Maintenance Technician will be awarded by City and Guilds International upon successful completion.

Schedule: When Can I Start?

The next cohort of students will be enrolled to start in October 2014 for both full-time and part-time classes.

Full-time classes will be conducted from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm as scheduled.

Part-time classes will be conducted from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm as scheduled.

Prerequisites: How do I Apply?

Secondary school graduates must have the following prerequisites:

  • Five CXC or GCE subjects, Grades I, II or III, or A, B, or C, including Mathematics, English and a Science subject (Physics, Chemistry or Integrated Science)
  • Students with Advanced level subjects will be considered as well

For the mature applicant (persons over 21 years) experience in the oil and gas industry combined with on-the-job training will serve as prerequisites.

A diagnostic assessment in literacy and numeracy will be administered to persons using the mature entry route.
